Products for 2015
Which Premier
products are the
most important
or useful ones?
Because an individual’s flock
location in the USA (east/west/
north/south) and purposes (show
vs fiber vs hobby vs commercial vs
stud) vary so much,
the obvious
answer is that “it depends.”
But we can say which items are
essential to our own commercial
sheep farm in SE Iowa. They are:
A. Good fences
(both temporary
and permanent). Without them,
our sheep/goats/dogs would
control us.
B. Pens and corrals.
We have
a flock larger than 25, so we
need reliable handling yards to
enable easier sorting, drenching,
tagging, etc.
C. Feeders.
Big Bale Feeders, X-Tuff
Feeders and PortaTroughs.
D. For lambing:
• Triodine-7 and a navel cup.
• Stomach tuber and syringes.
• SuperLube, OB gloves.
• Heat lamps with durable bulbs.
• Gambrel restrainer.
• Buckets for feed/water in jugs.
• Antibiotics to prevent infection.
• Ring expander and O rings.
• Prolapse harness and retainer.
• Orphan lamb supplies.
• Rope halters to restrain a ewe
while we milk it, assist lambs to
nurse, etc.
E. General care:
• Ear tags, tag applicator.
• Shepherds’ crooks.
• Dewormers.
• Drenching gun.
• Vaccinating syringes.
