History
A SIMPLE START
After 10 years in England,
Stan Potratz returned to the family farm to raise sheep. The equipment he needed wasn’t available and had to be imported. Word spread, and soon he was supplying products nationwide.
EARLY ADOPTER
Premier was “gently nudged” into creating its first website by Stan’s nephew (who would later become Premier’s CEO). This greatly expanded our customer reach.
STILL GROWING
Major building expansions occurred in 2012 and 2020. We celebrated in 2021 by helping the county pave 4 miles of gravel road to our facility.
A Few or
a Flock? The interest in backyard poultry continues to grow!
And for good reason—chickens, ducks and other farm fowl provide fresh, flavorful eggs and meat. They’re easy to handle and affordable to raise in small spaces. For some, raising a few birds
is also an excellent way to preserve heritage breeds. All of this makes raising chickens both enjoyable and worthwhile.
Backyard poultry folks continue to rely on Premier for products that work and backyard-tested advice.
The same goes for those with sizable pastured poultry operations. These producers raise hundreds (or thousands!) of eggs, broilers and turkeys each year for local customers, farmers markets and restaurants.
They’re doing it by raising birds on pasture and frequently moving them to fresh forage. Premier’s portable electric netting makes this possible.
Whether you have only a few backyard birds or hundreds of broilers in the pasture, we can supply you with the right tools and the expert how-to advice you need to succeed.
(front and back covers) Spring ducklings enjoying a warm day on fresh green grass. Heated poultry items in use with adults and chicks. Everything you need can be found in our catalog or on our website, just add chickens!

CATALOGS
The first catalog was a black and white, 40 page manual on handling equipment, electric fences and shepherding supplies. Today, we deliver over 400 pages spread over three booklets.
SEMI-RETIREMENT
Jean and Stan entered retirement and Ben Rothe became Premier’s CEO. They remain active with the company and farm, but less so with day-to-day operations.
