• Chickens need to be trained. Select a trainee bird and place it on the step. It will see the feed and recognize that it is a feeder.
• Allow space under feeder step.
If litter and droppings accumulate, door will not be able to open fully.
• We do not recommend a treadle feeder for waterfowl. Feed space is too narrow for bills.
• For standard fowl only. Smaller breeds (Silkies/bantams) may be too light to activate the treadle.
• Use coarsely ground feed for optimal feed flow. High concentrations of fines (powder) in feed bind easily when humidity is high (slowing feed flow).
