12 & 18 Joule Energizers
For large high-output energizer fence installations only
The pulses from these units are stronger and larger in joules (not volts). Therefore,
they have the potential to cause more pain (and fear) to animals and humans if they
touch the fence while making good contact to the soil or an earthed wire. Those
lacking farm knowledge wrongly conclude that electric fences are overly dangerous.
Contact with a high output unit reinforces that belief. That being so, it’s best not to
use these large energizers on short fences that have public exposure.
Having noted that these units are large in pulse energy output, we acknowledge
that many firms make and sell larger units with 40, and even 60 joule output levels.
Premier is not comfortable selling these units—even though we are not aware of
injury or problems with them.
Instead of using very high output units on our farms, we prefer:
1. To use fence designs that don’t require them (incorporating more
non-energized strands).
2. To shorten the fence length and use a smaller energizer.
