 USDA Scrapie Eradication Program
Scrapie is a fatal, degenerative disease affecting the central nervous system of sheep and goats. There is no cure or treatment for scrapie.
REGULATORY
APPROVED PROGRAM
For all sheep and goats in USA
These tags enable officials to identify the place of birth
of older sheep and goats whose brains, post-slaughter, are diagnosed with scrapie. The tags also assist in locating the live animals born on a premises that produced an animal diagnosed with scrapie. Producers are required to follow Federal and State regulations for officially identifying their sheep and goats.

To comply, producers must insert an official tag in an ear of show sheep and goats; sheep and goats over 18 months of age; and intact sheep and goats under 18 months of age not moving into slaughter channels prior to leaving their farm of origin/birth.
You pay for the tag and choose the tag, size and color (except blue, which is reserved for official use).
The female side is official. However, we can personalize the male side for you at the same time we are printing the female side. (See above for details.)
There are exemptions for some types/classes of sheep and goats. Registry or official USDA flock ID tattoos may also be used. Rules vary from state to state. (For more details, visit eradicatescrapie.org or call 866-USDATAG).
Volunteer Scrapie Flock Certification Program (SFCP)
USDA’s scrapie flock certification program provides buyers of breeding stock with assurance that the seller’s sheep (if they’re enrolled in the program) are less likely to have scrapie. Those who voluntarily enroll in this program are in compliance with all regulatory rules.
