Allows orphans to nurse. Ewe can’t turn her head to see/smell the lamb so she lets it nurse. Some ewes (not all) eventually accept the lambs.
Fits into existing lambing jugs with 2 metal connecting pins (sold below). Neck slot adjusts with movable pin (included). Slot should be wide enough for ewe to move her head up/down but not wide enough to remove her head from headgate.

Grafting...does it work?
It does, but time is of the essence. Graft lambs/kids immediately!
Works best when ewe (or doe) is still birthing. How? Place your arm into the ewe and pull out your clenched fist to simulate an additional birth. She’ll look for the extra lamb.
In our experience—culling for mothering ability increases grafting success. Note: Grafting success is less than 100%. It still depends on the mother accepting the lamb/kid.
Neck slot adjusts with movable pin. Adjust so ewe can move her head up/down but not remove her head.
TIPS: GRAFTING OPTIONS
• Slime Graft. Cover the lamb to be grafted with placenta of the lamb it’s replacing or joining as a sibling.
• Skin Graft. If a ewe’s lamb died, skin it and cover the lamb to be grafted with the hide.
• Stanchion. If lamb to be grafted is several days old, use the Orphan Headgate. Place ewe in a grafting stanchion before she sees/smells the lamb. Then put lamb in pen.
• Pine Tar (see p. 109). Apply to top of the lamb’s tail and around the dam’s nose.
• Apple Cider Vinegar. Apply to/in ewe’s nose and lamb’s tail.
