Scent Caps&
Apple ScentScent caps are metal pop
bottle caps with cotton inside
them and a strand of soft
wire for wrapping around the
electrified rope/twine.
Apple scent is a concentrated
apple scented (as the name
implies) liquid.

with fear being the key factor of a 3D fence design.
Reduces need for strong wood end and corner posts.
For the single strand, use IntelliRope and scent caps. Scent caps on the rope ensure
that the deer will touch the energized rope and avoid the entire fence.
A superior 3D fence
Line posts are FiberRods. For end and corner posts, use steel T posts with insulators.
What is
3D fence? Two fences of electrified rope set 3 ft
apart. They make a barrier to deer that
has both depth and height—hence 3D.
The rope is supported by
FiberRods
™
and/or insulated wood
or steel posts.
A powerful energizer provides
the high-voltage, high energy
pulses that instill “stay back” fear
in deer.
Scent caps

are
attached to the rope at intervals to
entice deer to first touch the rope
with their noses.
Cost: as low as 42¢ per ft
How does
a 3D fencework?
Experts tell us that deer, like other
species with side-of-the-head eye
placement, can experience landing
anxiety before jumping.
So, when initially facing a fence that
has both height
and
depth (thus 3D),
deer are more tentative and likely to
check it out carefully
Deer cautiously walk up to the fence
and check it with their sensitive nose—
and receive a memorable electric shock.
Key advantages of a 3D fence
1. Low-cost to purchase.
2. Easy to maintain.
To install and maintain
1. Drive the posts.
2. Attach insulators/clips.
3. Unroll, insert and tension rope.
4. Attach scent caps.
5. Bait the caps with apple scent.
6. Electrify with a suitable energizer—
the very same day it’s installed!
7. Check voltage—3500v minimum.
8. Perform semiannual maintenance.
Expect to tension the rope and reset
some of the FiberRod posts.
9. Scent caps should be refilled before
a season of high deer activity and
ideally every 10 days during high-
activity seasons. Examples:
• Rubbing damage—in the autumn
before the rut.
• Browsing damage—depends on
plant species being browsed.
10. Voltage should be monitored every
week to ensure it’s 3500 or higher.
11. Weed growth under electrified
ropes needs to be removed once
each summer by mowing or by
applying long-term herbicides.
