P. 62
For temporary fences Moved Daily/Weekly Poultry Netting 42"
For non-flight prone poultry
The shortest of our poultry-friendly fences, 42" netting is easy to handle and recommended for containing heavy, nonflying birds (e.g. Orpingtons and Wyandottes) and waterfowl. For flightier breeds (e.g. Leghorns), look to 48" netting (see pp. 64–65).
TIPS: ELECTRIC NETTING
• Netting must be electrified to contain poultry and livestock and deter predators.
• Due to the potential for high grass contact, use energizers with high output (0.5 joules or higher) to push a pulse through the weed load. Energizers with joules of output rating of less than .25 are insufficient and a poor allocation of fencing $$. Go with more output than what you anticipate you’ll need.
• For more Fencing FAQs refer to pp. 75–80.
What can I do with this?
• Contain, control and move poultry on a daily or weekly basis.
• Rotate poultry to fresh grass and to reduce disease risks.
• Stop raccoons, foxes, coyotes, bears, dogs, skunks and other nonflying predators from killing your birds.
Do you have dry/hard soil?
If fencing in brown grass,
dry soil or snow, use the
Pos/Neg with drivable posts—its capability can overcome the soil’s lack of conductivity (see p. 78 for details).

TOP PICKS
42" is best for heavier nonflying chicken breeds.
(main photo) PoultryNet is regarded as the “do-it- all” fence for controlling multiple species (poultry, swine, goats and sheep).
(left inset) Green/black PoultryNet is best for users that prefer their net blend with the background. The white Leghorn hen is one we would consider flighty and better contained with 48" netting.
(right inset) The visibility of white/black netting is superior to that of yellow. We prefer highly visible fences while some look for economy versions if energizing fewer than 2 rolls.
