www.premier1supplies.com • 1-800-282-6631The first fiber-rod posts we used had
no outer coating—which resulted in
painful fiberglass splinters for those
who handled them. Nasty but still they
are sold by some sources.
To prevent splintering, Premier
SmoothCote FiberRods have an extra
UV resistant urethane outer coating.
Pros and Cons of FiberRods
• Less likely to break than some
plastic posts—although they
eventually will if bent often enough.
• Good line posts for fences
with
minimal side, up or down pressure.
These will disappoint if exposed to
up, down or side strain.
• Self-insulating. But they need a clip
to hold the twine, tape, rope or wire.
Wire clips are inclined to entangle
with each other.
Plastic clips are a
better choice.
• Neither as heavy nor as bulky as
steel or wood posts. Easy to carry.
• Harder to install than FiberTuff,
PigTail or PowerPosts.
• Can be hit with a hammer if using a
drive cap
(see p. 133)
. Otherwise use
a mallet.
Note: See chart on p. 129 that compares
various post types for their ability to resist
side-strain. 3/8" rods don’t do so well but
11/16" rods excel.
