2. Built-in digital voltmeter that indicates
the current voltage at the terminals.
(It’s true that the best voltage measure
is at the end of the fence. However, if
I see that the voltage reading on the
energizer is low, then I know to check
the far end of a fence.)
3. Half voltage terminal that can be
connected bipolar. This option is
valuable for dry locations.
4. Ability to change pulse rate down
during the day or night. But 25 pulses/
minute can be too slow to stop many
wild animals.

Energizers
High Output Units
The pulses from these units are
stronger/larger in joules (not volts).
Therefore these energizers have the
potential to cause more pain (and fear)
to animals and humans if they contact
the fence while making good contact
to the soil or an earthed wire.
People with no farm knowledge
often conclude that an electric fence is
dangerous if they touch it.
That being so, it’s best not to use
these large energizers on short fences
that have public exposure.

Having noted that the units on this
page are large in pulse energy output,
we acknowledge that many firms
make and sell larger units with 40, and
even 60 joule output levels. Premier is
not comfortable selling these units—
even though we are not aware of
injury problems with them.
Instead of using very high output
units, on our farms, we prefer to:
1. Use fence designs that don’t
require them.
2. Use multiple (smaller) energizers.
