When to use the
Premier 4000s Shear
Sheep
Machine shears are used to remove the wool
for sale, to prepare for shows, to treat/prevent
fly strike. Beginners may use a stand
(below)
but
experienced shearers usually hold the animal
using their legs and hands.
Sheep
Blocking is shearing wool without the
comb touching the animal’s skin. Most
breeding sheep are blocked to prepare
them for the show ring to emphasize
shape and structure.
Llamas and Alpacas
Shorn for their fiber and also so they
don’t suffer from the heat during hot,
humid summers (they are originally
mountain animals).
Fiber Goats
Mohair (Angora) goats are shorn with
shearing machines. A stand will work
for a few animals but professionals hold
them while shearing as they would sheep.
Beef and Dairy Cattle
For peeling.
Rapid removal of body hair
on cattle.
For blocking.
Sheep heads (shears) are
used. Yes, sheep shearing machines are
used on cattle. Best tool for this work.
