end and corner posts. Line posts can be

Use black/white conductors to increase
the visibility of the fence, so deer will be
sure to investigate the energized strands
with their sensitive noses.
What is a 3D fence?
It’s 2 fences of electrified rope, set 3 ft
apart. They make a barrier that has both
depth and height—hence 3D.
An energizer provides the high-voltage,
high-energy pulses that instill “stay
away” fear in deer.
Scent caps (p. 36) are attached to the
electrified rope at intervals to entice deer
to first touch the rope with their nose.
How does a 3D fence work?
Deer experience landing anxiety before
jumping because of their eye placement.
When initially facing a fence that has
both height and depth (3D), deer are
cautious and are more likely to check it
out carefully.
Deer tentatively walk up to the fence
and check it with their sensitive nose—
and receive a painful electric shock.
