Premier 4000s Shear
For high speed wool and fiber removal. Powered by a high- torque permanent magnet motor that glides easily through dense wool and hair. Only experienced shearers can push it fast enough through dense fiber to affect cutter speed.
For a smoother finish, see the interchangeable clipper head below. Combs and cutters sold on pp. 30–31.

1. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the shear head from the 4000s motor.
2. Attach the clipper head (to the same motor) and attach with screws.

Tensioning Shear Heads
Why the correct tension on shear heads is so critical
1. Wool gets under the cutter, which prevents cutting. Remove the cutter, clean out the wool, replace the cutter, then reset the tension.
2. The cutter may fly off, allowing forks to drop between the comb’s teeth—which strips the drive gear.
Causes excessive friction, dulling the cutting edges quickly. Heat builds on both the comb/cutter and shearing head.
1. Tighten the tension knob, until resistance is felt, to force the cutter against the comb. Tighten an additional 1/2 turn.
2. Apply shearing oil (see p. 40) to the comb and cutter.
3. Turn on the machine. Tweak tension according to comb/ cutter heat/cutting ability. To find the sweet spot, adjust
tension cautiously while operating.

TIP: OILING IS ESSENTIAL
Frequent and proper lubrication is essential for the function of blades/ combs/cutters.
A high quality oil (see p. 40) reduces friction (heat) and can increase the longevity of blades/combs/cutters.
