A low-cost solution for fences that need to
remain in place less than 5 years.
Use steel T or wood posts for ends and
corners. Use FiberTuff
™
, FiberRods
™
or steel
T as line posts.
Conductors (twine, tape, rope and/or
MaxiShock
™
) are hand-tensioned. Up to 7
strands can be used in response to predator
and livestock pressure.
We prefer 5 strands of IntelliRope
®
PE
4.5 for perimeter fences—and 3 strands of
IntelliRope PE 4.5 for internal fences.
For sites that are frequently dry, a Pos-
Neg connection system is advised.
To prevent grass from draining energy
from the fence, graze both sides hard, use a
herbicide or install a high joule energizer.
(It’s best to do all 3 things.)
Regular maintenance (every 2 months) is
required to adjust tension of conductors and
reset any loose line posts. Tree limbs that
fall on the fence must be removed.

A 5-strand fence
supported by FiberRods.
Top strand is IntelliRope
PE 4.5 for extra visibility
to deer. Lower 4 strands
are IntelliTwine.
Words of warning…
1. Avoid high resistance (in ohms)
conductors
. The pulse energy and
voltage at the far end will be too low.
2. Avoid small energizers.
Why?
Because they are less able to cope
with variations in soil (from wet
to dry). And high joule energizers
produce pulses that intimidate!
Cost: as low as 26¢ per ft
To install
Tools:
Hammer or sledge to drive
posts, wire cutter, voltmeter.
Time:
About the time it takes to walk
any distance twice per strand.
Skill:
Minimal.
A multi-strand fence with rope (top strand),
twine (next 2 strands) and MaxiShock (2 bottom
strands). Note differences in visibility.
