SHEEP AND GOAT FENCES 25

Points to consider

Because reel systems rarely exceed

4 wires, animals (insulated by their

hair or wool) can push their heads

between the wires

if they feel it’s

worth it

.

They are less likely to do this if:

1. They’re pretrained to fences.

2. They’re not starved and forage

inside the fence is high quality.

3. Energizer and conductor

combine to produce a powerful

shock (high voltage and joules).

A 3-strand reel fence subdividing summer pasture for dry ewes. While we recommend netting if

lambs are present, multi-strand fences will absolutely contain older animals that have experience

with electrified fences and aren’t grazed too “hard.”

Note: Users who have tried both

usually prefer IntelliBraid 3.0 to

IntelliTwine. Costs more/ft,

but it handles better on a reel.

To install

Tools:

Steel maul or sledge

to drive in the reel post

support stake; fence tester.

Time:

About the time it takes

to walk any distance (e.g.

1000 ft) twice.

Skill:

Minimal.

(above) In very tall grass adjust the height of the lowest

strand by sliding the harp clips up the Step-In FiberRod post.
