Page Background ChickBox Key Features— 1. Fold-up perch Perch placement allows droppings to fall clear of nest area. Fold up perch to close the nest, or keep broody hens out at night. Perch and nest assembly slide out to provide full access for cleaning. Can be washed or hosed down. An important fix— in 2013 the manufacturer added support struts to reduce risk of the perch breaking. 2. Roll-out tray Optional black roll- out tray slides into place (see at right) . Speeds up egg collection. Egg stays clean because it rolls away when the hen leaves, safe from pecking and droppings. (However, mostly out of habit, we continue to use a little straw in the nests for our flock.) 4. Plastic • Safer. Won’t rust. Has no sharp edges. And unlike wood there are no splinters. • Doesn’t harbor mites. • Easy to clean because entire assembly slides out to provide full access for cleaning. Can be hosed down and washed with water and disinfectant. 3. Interlocking system Nest boxes snap together with clever interlocking side tabs. Result is a tidy array of nest boxes. Lift flap to gather eggs. Close flap to protect eggs. Lowering the perch opens up the nest for egg laying. Folding the perch up keeps broody hens out at night. Interlocking side tabs Roll-out tray is easy to install. Slides into place. Flap is now clear (vs opaque) plastic.
