pregnant ewes, feeding gestation rations and lambing.
Use these devices to ensure maximum profitability.
Why mark at breeding?
Because it allows shepherds to know:
• Which ewes/does have been bred. Unbred females
ride the cull truck at the end of breeding season. (We
give some first-year breeds a second chance.)
• Birthing date (145 days after breeding), so you can
prepare and have supplies ready.
• Newborn’s sire—track sires that offer the most profit.
• Identify poor performing or inactive males.
Correct use of harnesses:
1. Adjust frequently. Rams lose weight during breeding season.
2. If the forelegs begin to chafe, adjust harness or add padding.
3. The crayon fits below the brisket, between the forelegs. Not below the neck.
