1. To supplement newborn triplets
A ewe’s full milk flow does not kick in until some time
after lambing. So if a ewe is short of milk immediately
post-lambing we supplement the lambs (still with the
ewe) with a bottle in the pen.
2. As an alternative orphan feeding system
How? Provide milk in bottles instead of buckets
for 3 weeks.
• Feed 3 times per day.
• Drop bottles into holders. Leave them in place while
you finish the rest of your chores.
• Return and remove bottles
(many lambs will chew
on empty nipples)
.
Keep in mind
• In warm months—feed less, more often. This
reduces milk spoilage.
• Nipples don’t last. They wear out over time.

Do not cut off the tip.
Instead carefully slit the outer end into 2 halves
with a razor, scalpel (p. 45) or very sharp scissors.
The 2 halves should snap
together when not in use and self-seal the end of the teat.
TIPS
BOTTLE RACK PLACEMENT
Note:
Make sure vertical rods of the panel (see photo above left) are on the
inside
of the pen; otherwise the bottle rack is difficult to hang.
Also, notice that the angle of the feeding bottles is almost horizontal so there
is less leakage from the teats.
